yrc hikoi (walking) program
WE WALK TO BE HEARD.
A day trip exploring stunning beaches. In the afternoon, admire panoramic views of the coastline. Today's day trip was exploring new surroundings and being in an unfamiliar community.
|
Exploring the shoreline and walking out on the seabed during low tide, offering unique discoveries and unforgettable experiences. We are reminded to respect the marine environment and leave only footprints behind.
|
Taking a leisurely coastal walk along the shoreline and exploring walking trails that wind through the surrounding coastal vegetation. As we walked, we had the opportunity to soak in the natural beauty of the area and feel grounded.

YRC Hikoi (Walk) Program started with 4 young ladies in Youth Detention Centre. It was designed for young ladies to have a safe place to talk. Proudly we have all 4 young ladies who started the program within the centre currently attending the Hikoi program every weekend for the 6 last months. The program meets a very important community need, which is to keep the young people busy on the weekends. The concept for our program, is for young people to see beyond their post code.
Our YP pick the location for our day trip. It provides opportunities to explore new places and broaden their horizons is invaluable. Experiencing new environments has opened their minds to new possibilities and perspectives, showing them that there's a whole world out there waiting to be discovered and nurturing curiosity and appreciation for the world beyond their familiar surroundings.
Its humbling to see our YP appreciate their day trips and to show our YP there is so much more outside their postcode, and provide experiences that we take for granted, as some of our YP very rarely leave their postcodes for everyday life experiences.
